I wear a six-pence piece on a string around my neck, to remember by. I managed to bore a hole through it, so I could put it on some old string and tuck it into my dress.
What gives? My guess from earlier hasn't posted. Here it is again. I think you are going to be Ann from the HG Wells novel Kipp: The Story of a Simple Soul. (I know Ann gave Kipp the sixpence but don't remember if she kept one or got it back ... timeto reread.)
