Beatiful Life: A little spot of earth

Welcome to our friends from Melissa's Beautiful Life linky festival- glad you could stop by!
********************************************************************************************************

Alright, maybe a lot of "spots."  I have a beautiful raised bed in the back yard, built by Wonder Daddy and my own Dad and brothers.  Problem is, it doesn't get a whole lot of sun.  So, it's fine for chard and bush beans, and perhaps carrots, but really doesn't get that warm.  I'm hoping my motley collection of pots will get the heat I need to grow husk cherries, green onions, lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes, leeks, mint, radishes, basil, and gau lak.  Because I REALLY want all those seeds and starts to work this year!

Funny thing about this mint- I planted the seeds last Spring, and NOTHING happened.  I went down last Saturday to clear the weeds from the pots and get new dirt in them, and ....well lookit that.  LOTS of mint!  Looks like there's a strawberry in there too, inexplicably.

Here's an adorable basil my mom started in her green house- I wish you could smell it!

Ah- ground cherries.  Husk tomatoes.  Little berries that grow in husks like tomatillos, dry very well, make good pies...and I've never tried before.  I'm excited to see what these do!

I picked up a bunch more pots today, so my little deck garden will be growing soon!  What are you growing this year?  Tried and trues?  Something new?  Giving up on the whole thing and firmly embracing the produce section?  Do tell!

I think your collection of pots is beautiful. I want to do a bit more container gardening this year too. Seeing all of the different things growing makes me smile. :)

How fun!! I love when something unexpected happens. Looks like an excellent start.

I love that! Containers are so easy since you can control the environment a bit more.

Our garden is slowly growing, our short season only lets us do a little at a time. Right now there's broccoli, the starts of spinach and lettuce and squash. Next month we'll add our tomatoes which are currently living in our kitchen window. Can't wait to see it all growing! And to eat from it! Yum.

Thanks for sharing-those pots are going to be fun to watch grow!

Hello spring! Great container corner you have going. I think you just inspired me to do a garden post this weekend.

You will love the ground cherries. Ours have been reliably returning and deliciously producing for 3 or 4 years now.

We have a huge amount of veggies going in again this year. Tomatoes are exclusively cherry as I just have much better luck with them in our climate. I highly recommend the roma cherry if you can find it. Delicious and an excellent producer.

I am also nervously awaiting production on some of the fruit this year. Here's hoping for blueberries, raspberries, asian pears, grapes, peaches and satsumas. Or at least one of one of them. I *think* I might also have some sunberry starts, but given my labeling mishap, may not know until later this summer if I actually do. Unfortunately said mishap will likely lead to many a surprise. Really need to get better about labeling.

I don't want to wish the summer away, but I really can't wait to see what our gardens will bear this summer. :)

All my seeds are dying....except for the basil. :-(

My bulbs are starting to come up, though, and I've just totally spaced on the name. Starts with a G...really tall stalk with half a dozen flowers.

Gladiolas!

Crocosmia bulbs haven't come up yet, though....

Mmmm...I can smell the mint from here. (Though when I first opened the post, I thought maybe you were growing pot, and I was a bit surprised. ;0)

We have the same problem...too much shade, and the sunny parts are concrete which get too hot and dry. I've pretty much given up on veggies except for herbs, and now potatoes. They seem to be doing very well in the trash can. Thanks for that suggestion. It's keeping the insects away as well. We've got lots of those too!

Just so you know... mint NEVER dies. It's like a cat with nine lives.

Wow! That's a pretty impressive collection. I tried taking advantage of our warmer spell in Ottawa, and planted my tomatoes. It's been a little chilly. Here's hoping that it's not going to frost over tonight!

I'd almost rather use pots instead a big garden plot. My plot is all ready for the planting, but I'm procrastinating. We put in lots of food...Hopefully, it will all do well this year.

Bless your sweet garden!
